ATSIMA is delighted to congratulate Merrkiyawuy Ganambarr-Stubbs, alongside co-authors Leonie Norrington, Djawa Burarrwanga and Djawundil Maymuru, on winning the 2026 Prime Ministerβs Literary Award for Fiction for A Piece of Red Cloth. Merrkiyawuy has been a strong supporter of ATSIMA and our work over many years.
We have been privileged to work with Merrkiyawuy through ATSIMAβs work in Yirrkala and are thrilled to see her knowledge, leadership and contribution recognised through this significant achievement. A Piece of Red Cloth draws on YolΕu oral history and tells its story through YolΕu eyes, bringing together cultural knowledge, history and storytelling.
