Session 4 – Workshop Session
The theme for the series is Teaching Culture = Deep Learning. This theme recognises that 1) culture is an intrinsic part of mathematics and 2) teaching mathematics in connection with culture can lead to a greater conceptual understanding. In this regard, the series will explore the importance of the new 90+ content elaborations in the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures cross-curriculum priority. These elaborations will be the starting point for further engagement in the teaching and learning of mathematics from a cultural perspective, and its connection to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures.
